I would like to take this opportunity to let you know that after many prayers and
careful consideration, I have made the decision to resign from my position as Good
Shepherd Center Director, effective June 30, 2022. As you may know, I returned to
Good Shepherd Center in 2010, after previously serving from 1985-2002 and have
truly treasured my time here.
During all of these years, I have been humbled by Good Shepherd’s benefactors,
volunteers and staff and your willingness to come to the aid of those most vulnerable
in our community. I cannot fully express my gratitude for the support that you have
shown not only to me but to the women and children that come to Good Shepherd as a
last source of refuge. Together with our staff, you have helped transform the lives of
thousands and impacted future generations. Even so, our life-saving mission of
serving women and children with dignity and love continues.
It is my pleasure to introduce Good Shepherd’s new Center Director, Sister Maria
Jennifer Nguyen, LHC. Sister Jennifer, a fellow member of the Lovers of the Holy
Cross Sisters is no stranger to Good Shepherd, as she served as the Languille Shelter
Co-Director from 2002-2009, briefly as Program Director in 2011, and as Residence
Supervisor from 1991-1992. Currently, Sister Jennifer serves as Director of the Office
of Asian Pacific Ministry in the San Bernardino Diocese. She received her Bachelor
of Arts in Social Work from California State University Long Beach and her Masters
in Social Work from California State University Los Angeles. She will begin her new
role at Good Shepherd on Tuesday, July 5 th , 2022.
Please join me in welcoming Sister Jennifer back to Good Shepherd Center. She will
need your prayers and generous support as she leads the Center at a time when women
and families are facing an unprecedented crisis. It goes without saying that the
number of women and children experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles has
dramatically increased in the last several years. They are facing a unique set of
challenges which require the distinct care that only a safe haven like Good Shepherd
