Kathleen McCarthy Kostlan, President of The Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Foundation was honored at Good Shepherd Center's Homeless No More gala event at the Jonathan Club, on March 16, 2016. Kathleen has been a loyal supporter of Good Shepherd Center since 1984. The Sister Julia Mary Award was presented to Kathleen by Center Director, Sr. Anne Lanh Tran, LHC, and Good Shepherd Center Board President, Marcia Wilson Hobbs.
The evening festivities began with a silent auction and cocktail reception hour. Honorable Tom LaBonge served as Master of Ceremonies for the evening and Mr. Vincent Zapien was the auctioneer. The invocation was delivered by Archbishop José H. Gomez.
Good Shepherd Center Board Members, Auxiliary Members, friends, donors and volunteers attended the event. Joy, a former resident of Good Shepherd Center, spoke about what it was like to live as a homeless woman after having worked in corporate America. She said it was a humbling experience and she often asked God what the lesson was for her ending up in this seemingly hopeless situation. She expressed deep gratitude for those whom she met on her journey and is very happy to have her own apartment today. Joy said that she was always treated with respect by the staff at Good Shepherd Center and has many pleasant memories to look back on.
A special thank you goes to Board Member, Sonia Y. Lee, event chair of the Homeless No More gala.
